Nonprofit: The National
Education Foundation (NEF) is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit organization,
headquartered in metropolitan Washington, D.C. Founded in 1989, after
consultations with national leaders including former President Bill
Clinton and Intel founder Dr. Gordon Moore, NEF is the world's leading
nonprofit organization bridging the employment, digital and academic
divides by providing high quality affordable 21st Century online education
to millions of students and jobseekers in many countries including the
U.S., India, Egypt, Jordan and Mauritius. NEF offers 5,500 high quality
K-99 online courses and mentoring using state-of-the-art LMS (Learning
Management System) and interactive video platform.
Motto: "High quality
education for all."
Projects: NEF fulfills
its mission through the following projects:
- CyberLearning
Academy provides 21st century skills for disadvantaged students
in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) business, reading,
management and testprep to close the academic and digital gaps. The
goal is to set up a STEM+ CyberLearning Academy in most disadvantaged
schools in the U.S. by 2020.
- NEF University
provides workforce training solutions to close the skills gap. The immediate
goal is to train one million U.S. jobseekers during 2011-2012.
- NEF International
provides academic, digital and workforce training to disadvantaged students
and adults in many countries including India, Egypt, Jordan and Mauritius
(training the entire population in digital literacy and IT). NEF believes
that training and placing in jobs unemployed college graduates in terror-prone
countries is the most cost-effective way to combat global terrorism.
To this extent, NEF launched the MIITE (Million Indians IT Education)
project in India in 2011 in partnership with IGNOU, the world’s
largest open university with 4 million students. The US State Dept.
is interested in NEF’s terrorism-fighting projects.
