The National Education Foundation (NEF) has recently announced that they will be giving the mandated 10% matching grant to any disadvantaged school district in the nation.

With this grant, the said school district will receive $1 million to $30 million in Federal funds for STEM, energy efficiency, renovation and technology.

According to a press release, the NEF has set aside $60 million to provide the required 10% matching grant to school districts nationally so that they would be able to get a portion of the $600 million federal funds. in addition to this, the NEF will also set up the mandated STEM+ academy for improving Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, English, Social Studies, SAT/ACT, IT and Business skills to help districts to meet state standards.

“School districts across the US are faced with serious budget cuts at a time the US rankings in math, reading and science are still low. Twenty-four countries are ranked ahead of the US in math. Our $60 million grant program will provide school districts the required 10% match and a world-class STEM+ academy,” said Dr. Appu Kuttan, Chairman of the National Education Foundation (NEF), author, philanthropist and global expert in STEM education and school financing.

According to the record of State University of New York (SUNY) which uses the stem+ academies through a grant from NEF, NEF’s STEM+ academies are capable of helping students to advance in their learning within 20-30 hours.

MOREOVER, Misty Weber, the NEF academy program director at the Warren County School District in PA said that the NEF has helped them to receive $34 million in Federal funds for renovating school facilities and improving energy efficiency programs. With the help of NEF, parents are also given training through NEF’s parent academy while teachers are given trainings through a teacher academy.
